Dial-Up Instructions

 

Install and setup your modem.

  • Instructions can be found in your modem's manual.

Turn off AppleTalk.

  • From the Apple Menu select the Chooser.
  • In the lower-right corner of the Chooser, next to AppleTalk choose InActive.
  • Restart your computer.

Set up the Remote Access Control Panel (formerly PPP).

  • From the Apple Menu select Control Panels, and open the Remote Access Control Panel.
  • Enter the following settings:
    • Name: your username
    • Password: your password
    • Number: enter the ISP's local dialup number

Set up Open Transport TCP/IP

  • From the Apple Menu select Control Panels, and open the TCP/IP Control Panel.
  • Enter the following settings:
    • Connect Via: PPP
    • Configure: Using PPP Server
    • Name server addr.: enter the ISP's primary and secondary dns
    • Search domains: ISP's domain

Set up the Internet Control Panel

  • From the Apple Menu select Control Panels, and open the Internet Control Panel.
  • On the Personal tab, enter the following settings:
    • Name: enter your full name (or however much of it you use)
    • Email Address: your username@domain.com
    • Organization: the organization this account is associated with, if none, leave it blank

  • On the Email tab, enter the following settings:
    • User Account ID: your email username
    • Incoming Mail Server: incoming mail server name
    • Password: your email password
    • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: outgoing mail server name
    • Default E-mail Application: choose your email application from the list or browse to it by choosing Select...

  • On the News tab, enter the following settings:
    • News (NNTP) Server: your news server
    • Connect to News Server as: Registered User
    • Name: your email username
    • Password: your email password
    • Default News Application: choose your email application from the list or browse to it by choosing Select...
